Winter – Plum Blossom [冬梅]
This drawing captures the winter scene of the restaurant area. The plum blossoms are trained to grow vertically (forms the canopy for the dining area) and horizontally (as a protection from the wind during the winter). The plum blossoms form a veil and mask the kitchen and storage room below. Thus the capital always depicts a prosperous joyful image to the tourists visiting the area.
Spring - Orchid Blossom [春蘭]
This drawing is about the spring, orchid blossom. The drawing borrows the traditional Chinese landscape painting technique. Peacefulness and flatness are embodied in the composition: the relation between foreground orchid blossom, architecture, water and the background island and entry.
Summer – Bamboo [夏竹]
This drawing presents the summer view to the audience. It captures the scene tourists would see once they enter the capital in the summer – an endless bamboo colonnade leading to the entry canopy. Alongside the colonnade are the fish farms and seaweed farms.
Autumn – Chrysanthemum [秋菊]
This is the autumn night view from the dining area. A full moon is composed by the chrysanthemum terraces. Referencing the grand chrysanthemum plots from the Chinese film Curse of the Golden Flower, the golden chrysanthemum here carries the meaning of family reunion and a worship of moon.
This drawing tries to capture tourists taking picture from the seating area with bamboo façade, looking into the lobby area. Behind the façade are 1. a long stairway with staff holding ipads and welcoming the arriving people. 2. Continuingly is the fishcarpet, and a silk panel hanging above, reflecting the fishcarpet at the bottom. 3. On the two sides are the retails with their names written on red silk panels. A reference of the shop banner chapter from the narrative I chosen. 4. A silhouette of the Beijing parliament.
This image imagines the tourist arriving at the entry, it is a reflection view on the water. The entry is composed by bamboo, the void top creates a spotlight effect to the arriving tourists .
